Gangtok, The first office of Jai Kisan Andolan was inaugurated today at village Lingee Sokpey in South Sikkim district by hoisting the National Flag and the Organisation Flag. Present at the inauguration ceremony were Jai Kisan Andolan Sikkim State President Shri Kedarnath Tewari, Vice-President Havaldar Major Som Bahadur Rai (Retd) and General Secretary Shri Dhan Bahadur Basnet, along with members of the local village unit.
The assembled members were addressed by Shri Kedarnath Tewari. He said: “Jai Kisan Andolan has started its journey in Sikkim with the mission of uniting all farmers for realising all long standing promises and dues from the government. Farmers of Sikkim will now not only raise their voice about local issues but will also join national level movements for realising demands from the central government. Before winter sets-in this year, there will be 100 units of Jai Kisan Andolan in Sikkim. The long suppressed voice of farmers of Sikkim will now ring loud and clear across the mountains and valleys of Sikkim. As an ex-serviceman, I am proud that the slogan of ‘Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan’ is coming true in Sikkim when farmers and soldiers belonging to farm families are coming together to save villages and village livelihoods.”
Avik Saha, National President of Jai Kisan Andolan congratulated the Sikkim Unit on the inauguration of the first office and welcomed the rapid steps being taken by the leadership and members of Sikkim in spreading the message of farmers movement in Sikkim. He expressed hope that in the coming days, Jai Kisan Andolan will compel the SKM government of Sikkim to fulfil each and everyone of the promises made to the farmers of Sikkim.
