Back in April, 9To5Google published an article stating that the Google Pixel 6 Pro was supposed to launch with a face unlock feature. However, sources with knowledge of the situation claimed that the feature was pulled relatively close to launch time. It was also discovered that this feature had never been intended for the Pixel 6 model, but rather for the more expensive premium model. This difference could be attributed to the fact that the two phones have front cameras that are different from each other.

Google Pixel fans may remember that there was a lot of speculation surrounding the Google Pixel 6 and Face Unlock phones. These rumors circulated before and after the launch of the phones, as some expected the feature to launch on the Pixel 6 Pro. The feature had issues with reliability and battery life, which are the reasons this option was not available until now. However, it appears that the software developers working on Android 12 are laying the groundwork for Face Unlock on the Pixel 6 Pro to finally appear at some point in the future.

Though Google hasn't confirmed anything new about Face Unlock yet. As reported by TechRadar, Google may now have ironed out the necessary issues and is ready to roll out Face Unlock on the Pixel 6 Pro. While this phone doesn't have the radar sensors that enable face unlock on the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL, its front-facing camera technology and Google's AI expertise may be enough.

It is speculated that the face unlock functionality will be added to the Google Pixel 6 Pro after the launch of Android 13 and the Pixel 7 series.
