Kolkata, Farmers Wasim Akram, Hanif Momin, Noor Mohammad and Abdul Momin, who were protesting against the forcible laying of high-voltage power lines by the Adani Group at Farakka and were arrested on false and trumped up charges by the State Police were released today on bail by Jangipur Court, after suffering 16 long days of imprisonment. The court battle was fought tirelessly by Murshidabad District leader of Jai Kisan Andolan (a constituent of Samyukt Kisan Morcha) Advocate Jiaul Ali Khan and other local protestors.

After obtaining bail for the protesting farmers, Advocate Jiaul Ali Khan said: “False cases were filed against the farmers who were seriously injured due to police brutality and an attempt was made to suppress the agitation by arresting them, but the farmers know how to deal with all the governments that ally with corporates like Adani Group and create terror. The state government and the central government cannot suppress the farmers by force. We are thankful that the court has granted bail to the innocent farmers today after realizing the patent absurdity of the allegations levelled by the police.”

On behalf of the National Committee of Jai Kisan Andolan, National President Avik Saha and West Bengal State President Prabir Mishra extended warm congratulations and greetings to Advocate Jiaul Ali Khan, the released farmers and all struggling farmers, and said: “Now the intensity of the movement will increase. There will be constant sit-ins and protests. By acting against the interest of farmers, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has betrayed the people of Bengal and joined hands with the Adani group, that has flourished with the blessings of Prime Minister Modi. Samyukt Kisan Morcha will remedy this.”
